Documentary Feature/Featured
Bama Girl follows a young black woman's quest to become the 2005 Homecoming Queen at the University of Alabama, running against not only 15 other co-eds, but a strictly segregated Greek system, internal black politics, and, most ominously, a secret all-white association called 'The Machine' that has been controlling campus politics at the University for most of the past century. This is a film about black and white, about the Old South and the New South, and about an unexpected microcosm of electoral politics that mirrors much of what is happening across our country today.
Featured/Foreign Feature
Award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov (Prisoner of the Mountains) illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan in this stunning historical epic. Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif Aliyev, Mongol (Oscar-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film) delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. Mongol shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.

NEW MOON Review

NEW MOON. Fangless.

Although sequels sometimes have a hard time living up to their predecessor's fame(or infamy), NEW MOON eclipsed TWILIGHT in the CGI department, in length, and in presentation.

Starring Robert Pattinson (Edward), his overly-styled coiffeur, Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob), NEW MOON is supposedly a faithful movie-adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's second novel o [...]

What the Success of New Moon and The Blind Side Can Do For Women

Can the combination of New Moon and The Blind Side reorient Hollywood’s thinking about women and their entertainment buying power?

Anecdotally and reflected in the success of films like Mamma Mia and Sex and the City, women are much more likely to go to the movies in large groups as they grow older than men. It’s a component of Tyler Perry’s success that African American women in their 20s are just as likely as African A [...]
