Coming Out~Coming In: Faith, Identity and Belonging
Susan Campbell 2005
Categories: Documentary Short, Out on Film
Run time: 30 min. | U S A
'Before I could come out to anyone else, I had to come out to God--and that was probably the hardest thing,' says Steve, a middle-aged white Christian. 'I went to a church where there was still that fire-and-brimstone type of sermon, but I needed the spiritual part so badly I was willing to sit there and hear that,' says Jeffrey, an African-American who was raised in the Baptist Church. This 30-minute documentary gives voice to gay and lesbian Christians who have struggled to reconcile faith and sexual orientation. Personal stories, from dedicated Christians of all ages and many walks of life, take viewers beyond the current debate in churches to reveal the everyday efforts of faithful people. Coming Out~Coming In was recorded in North Carolina and offers a way to start new and meaningful conversations among people who do not always agree. Produced by Wildacres Leadership Initiative in association with Minnow Media.
