'Before I could come out to anyone else, I had to come out to God--and that was probably the hardest thing,' says Steve, a middle-aged white Christian. 'I went to a church where there was still that fire-and-brimstone type of sermon, but I needed the spiritual part so badly I was willing to sit there and hear that,' says Jeffrey, an African-American who was raised in the Baptist Church.This 30-minute documentary gives voice to gay and lesbian Christians who have struggled to reconcile faith and sexual orientation. Personal stories, from dedicated Christians of all ages and many walks of life, take viewers beyond the current debate in churches to reveal the everyday efforts of faithful people. Coming Out~Coming In was recorded in North Carolina and offers a way to start new and meaningful conversations among people who do not always agree. MEXICAN IN THE CLOSET Director: Charles Moore – USA - 25 minutes Lloosely based on a true life crime, a volatile Anglo wife brings Umberto, an illegal immigrant, into her home in hopes he will kill her cop husband. But days pass. The husband lives. Umberto stalls. He's grown accustomed to the unlikely comfort of living in Hannah's guest room closet. RACE Director: Peter Coyote – USA - 22 minutes Kira, an Asian-American woman, and Luke, an African-American man, work together like a machine as Vice Presidents of a Research Firm. When their Caucasian boss, Jack, announces to them that one of them will be promoted to become Senior Vice President based on the presentation that needs to take place the next day, they suddenly become at odds with each other. VEILS Director: Dan Susman - United Kingdom - 13 minutes In English, Arabic, and Hebrew with English subtitles A Jewish woman and a Palestinian man prepare on their wedding day, but not everyone iin their families is happy about the impending nuptials. WOMAN IN BURKA Director: Jonathan Lisecki – USA - 21 minutes A darkly comic look at the life of an actress and the types of Middle Eastern roles available to her in a post 9/11 culture.
Narrative Short
This film is comprised of four chapters, telling four separate stories that make up a meta-narrative. The works are the result of imagining the visual track to the story of someone else's memories. They focus on the small, mundanemoments that surround the dramatic (or traumatic) moments.
