Torn from the Flag is a high-profile English-language feature documentary about the fall of communism and the significant global effects of the Hungarian Freedom Fight of 1956. This revolution was the first important indicator of and catalyst for the future downfall of communism and later political and economic rearrangement of the world, and had important effects on the ending of the Cold War. Hungary's Freedom Fight opened the world's eyes to the fact that human and civil rights were being horribly abused under communism, and provided a precedent and example for other nations' future similar endeavors. The uprising revealed the profound hypocrisy of the 'People's State,' and initiated a process that culminated three decades later in the demise of the Soviet Union.
