My Effortless Brilliance
Lynn Shelton 2008 | Narrative Feature
Whats going on? Is this a horror film? I thought it was a horror film. We have references to Dracula, the mummy, cougars, and axes' all with a Deliverance vibe. I felt an axe coming in at some point and it never happened - actually nothing happened. I still kind of enjoyed the acting and the mystery although nothing big happens - clearly the point.

Tony Zear
Valenti Potier 2007 | Narrative Short
Ok so the production quality is great. The acting is bearable. The concept is fair. The biggest problem with this high end short is that the story is extremely predictable. I got the deal about one minute in. It seems like an audition piece for Hollywood commercialism. The premise could be a sketch from SNL. The sequence where the "punks" attack Tony was offensive and completely contrived. It doesn't work. Then we get a "message" from the movie that quite frankly I saw coming from the first minute. The end is especially unsatisfying after they made us sit through so much over-bloated circumstance. This was one of two films that I didn't like in a program of very strong European short films. That said, the film covers all other production and FX strongly - just keep us guessing and don't let me catch up with the very predictable and redundant movie.
