Dance of the Dead
Gregg Bishop 2008 | Narrative Feature
What a fun, low-budget romp! The gore is plentiful, the fast-moving zombies are often pretty terrifying, the kids are funny, and there are enough references to other films to keep people laughing. Big ups, Rome!

Son of Rambow
Garth Jennings | Foreign Feature
I've seen this twice now and I just love it. It plays out not like a real picture of childhood but like the way you remember your childhood. Everything is heightened in the film just a bit to make it kind of like a waking dream. I'll admit that the sentimentality is laid on pretty thick, especially through the score, and that the movie slows down a bit in the middle, but it's still a wonderful and fun film that reminds me of the best parts of being a kid.

Mongol
Sergei Bodrov | Featured, Foreign Feature
Mongol is a beautifully shot epic that's more of a character piece than these types of films usually wind up being. I was engrossed with it from the first few minutes and even though I knew where the story had to be going, I was fascinated to see it get there. Here's one historical epic where I'd love to see a sequel, as the film ends at a terrifically interesting point in its hero's life.
