Cam and Annie are best friends traveling through the mountains and coastal towns of Costa Rica looking for old comforts amidst new experiences. Initially it appears like a sort of travelogue of the type of trip that two women might take as they head off the beaten trail in search of some adventure - hiking through jungles, climbing a volcano, jumping from waterfalls, surfing some waves, and perhaps searching for some surfer boys. As the film progresses, we learn that there is more to the trip and that it may not be so much a vacation as an escape. It Was Great But I Was Ready To Come Home is a rare unadorned, intimate, and introspective look at the ebb and flow of female relationships.
